The clans from the Eor forest gathered their belongings and left the Nyre, and the Feral clans returned to their homes. The Fernwick were left to decide among themselves how to restructure their clan in a way to stay compliant with their tribe and allies with their Nyre neighbors. Word soon reached distant kurach clans on the plains and far north that the Sylvan clans had a change of heart and were seeking a possible trade route instead, and the human settlements didn't have any more trouble with raiders, but still had to take care they did not trespass into kurach lands.
Autumn was turning into winter and an early dusting of snow fell across the Scissortail den. Shanku sat on a bench in the large communal hall that held a few fire pits for warmth, and worked on some needlework. Her grandsire came and sat down beside her.
"Howdy, Sir Bibot!" Shanku said cheerily.
"Evening, pup," Bibot nodded to her. "You're doing well on that."
"Banhi could use a new pair of gloves, and Ma is busy making a new blanket, so I'm doing it for her," Shanku said proudly. "What all have you been up to lately?"
"Busy with meetings, of course," Bibot replied. "Working out new statutes for rebellious roamers and all."
Shanku giggled mischievously. "That's good to hear."
"I do find it interesting that the goblin hound suggested such a change to our laws," Bibot said casually. "Makes me wonder how the idea got put into his head."
"Not a clue," Shanku replied nonchalantly as she continued to work on the gloves for her little sister.
"I'm sure a certain brash young cub with a history of skulking about had nothing to do with it," Bibot mused.
"They'd have to be very good at skulking to get away from their parents, avoid the guards, and creep past all those scary calopi," Shanku nodded. "Very good."
"It may be good that they did, though," Bibot suggested. "After all, he was all set to tear us from our homes and lock us up in some horrible place against our will. Who knows how many generations would have been stuck there, if any of us ever returned at all?"
"Not an adventure most would want to go on," Shanku noted.
"For that, it has been decided that past offenders will be pardoned," Bibot remarked. "Seeing as how their rather adventurous and unconventional ideas lead to the Sylvans being spared of something so unpleasant caused by more normal behaviour, it was the least they could do. We still have to decide how much we can let the goblin hound be apart of our culture again without it being detrimental to us or sparking his wrath, and there are bound to be many uncomfortable changes, but they express their gratitude nonetheless."
"I'm glad to hear it," Shanku said warmly.
Bibot nodded and got up. Shanku watched him leave, absentmindedly aware of her stitching. I wonder if that means I'm finally welcome here?
The games are over and, boy, what an ending! Kleu appeared! That certainly ruffled a lot of feathers. I got to sneak off later that night to go talk to him. I think, for once, my weirdness finally paid off. I think I might have helped the Sylvans for once instead of being just another headache. It was nice.

Closure
Way back in chapter 28 it was somewhat alluded to that Niranjan was going to have Shanku assassinated, if anybody picked up on that. Shanku officially now has one less potential bounty on her head. ![]()
We got our first snow!! ![]()
Didn't even last 24 hours, but, we got a snow! I was concerned that since it was such a wet and mild summer we'd end up having a really dry and bitter winter, but we got a snow in December!
Anywho, a Merry Christmas and Yule, and Happy New Year! And a very Happy Holidays all around.
Chapter Notes:
This was originally written to be in the next chapter, but considering the games happened in this arc, I scooted it on up. Gotta think of something different for the start of the next arc now.
Arc Notes:
Now that that is finished, time to move on and heal.
Again, this was not based on the damned 2016 Trump vs. Clinton vs. Sanders election and was outlined long before that idiocy came to light. "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it" and that has become blatantly obvious with the way events keep playing out and mirroring some things that have already happened.
Let me also be perfectly clear on something else: this was not a civil war in any shape, form, or fashion. A civil war is described as "war that takes place between two organized groups within the same nation state". The Sylvan breed is just that; A breed. Just because they have the same ancestry doesn't mean they're in the same nation. The tribes would be the closest thing to a nation state, with clans making up the sovereign entities loosely allied with each other. This was not a revolutionary war either. A revolutionary war involves civilians revolting against ruling bodies. While there is a very thin line between a civilian militia who practices and trained military who are properly drilled, only warriors/soldiers officially fought in the Sylvan Conflict, even though some civilians did pester the hell out of the invaders by laying traps, and the Imperials were not the rulers of the Ferals, no matter how much they wanted to be or deluded themselves into thinking they were because they got comfortable forcefully doing what they wanted. This was simply a case of war, where one group was defending themselves from an aggressive group.
Although the research on those definitions were murky as hell. Basically, if the rebels win, it's a revolutionary war, and they most likely had a big outside backer. If the rebels lose, it's a civil war or simply dismissed as a rebellion, riot, or uprising, and they were on their own or had so little help they effectively were alone. The American Revolutionary War was originally labeled as an English Civil War, until the Americans received help from France and Spain, and we know how that turned out. From one continent to the next, I have yet to find a different case of revolutionary vs. civil.
