Fastest Flyer

Despite her concerns, the flight was absent of external influence. Within the flight, there was plenty of competition. With the Fernwicks having the most at stake, they were working the hardest. Ryan, the one who helped bring about the rebellion and relayed the most messages, was the representative for the rebels, and kept neck-and-neck with his rival from the fundamental counterpart of their clan.

Close on their tails were the two from Sushaw and Waebre, and they had worked to form a bit of a wall to keep the others from advancing further, without drawing suspicion from their dragon escort. The flyers from the Scissortail and Weolcen clans did their best to pester the sneaky saboteurs before them, while the ones from Blade and Falnor just tried to keep up.

The race ended in a steep dive between the two Fernwicks. Paris hit the ground just a half-step before Ryan, and was declared the winner. Tempers were flaring when the rest landed, but they were too winded to say or do much.

They were dismissed, scores were counted, and it was time for midday meal. Tensions were high between the two tribes as rumours spread quickly of the subtle workings during the flight and they kept themselves rather separated as they ate.

Fastest Flyer

This illustration was drawn for about two weeks before I could figure out how to write it. Plus there was an awful lot of ill health around the time it was being made. That poor bloke's death was the start of quite a bit of bad luck around here. O_o
August just sucks anyway. I don't know what it is about August, but it's getting to where I dread it almost as much as I dread leap years.

For a multitude of reasons, Little Mischief has begun his homeschooling. Heaven help me... I need to buy his old daycare a spa trip or something. Don't get me wrong, he's a good kid. He's loud, energetic, headstrong, and I swear if I'd put him in school I'd have been sorely tempted to deck the first person to complain that he's not the quiet little robot that they want kids to be. Sometimes I can't believe that the "children should been seen, not heard" mentality is still around.

If you are generally interested in teaching a small child how to read, Dr. Seuss ain't bad stuff. Despite some reservations I have about Amazon, that Amazon Underground thing of theirs is nice. I was able to get eleven of the books I grew up reading plus a few more on the "totally free" thing, although I'm a bit put off that most of the images are cropped in favor of making animations out of them. I wish I could find some P.D. Eastman stuff, like Go, Dog, Go! and Are You My Mother? And of course, there's always the Project Gutenberg's Children's Bookshelf. I've certainly downloaded the heck out of the fairy tales and picture books.
