Chef

The kitchen curtains fluttered gently in the warm spring breeze, tickling Shanku's arms as she passed by while setting the table. Katari was at the stove and softly humming as he fried up beef tips. Ina was rolling out dough to line the pan with. Hilael was beside her cutting up vegetables to go into the pot pie they were all working on (except Shanku), and soon to begin dicing fruit for the side dish. Shanku had been booted out of meal prep except for in the case the rest of them were sick, and even then she was under strict orders to serve simple pre-prepared things that had minimal margin for error. She could not contain her curiosity or impulses and often over-seasoned, under-seasoned, added strange seasonings, paired unusual dishes, and generally was unpredictable chaos in the kitchen. It was much safer for all parties involved to leave her in charge of setting out and cleaning up dishes.

Written for Artober.

Yes, Katari is holding the spatula low with his fingers pressing down on the top of the blade. It's how I usually fry my meat, and sometimes I grip the blade and half-guide the handle with my forearm. Anybody else do that or is that just some weird quirk I've developed? And is Hilael actually smiling??

That side bit I've been working on just clicked with all of them as a family and I've been gushing over them doing little domestic things together. Generally been in high, fluffy spirits lately.
